Richmond Pool Surround
Given the slope of the lot, it was decided early on in our analysis that it would be counter intuitive to the budget of the project to install a retaining wall to retain the pool structure. Instead the outer pool wall was designed to act as a retaining wall structure. This created an interesting look and feel as only half of the pool structure is connected to the pavers while the remaining half is left open to view the wood line below.
Project Scope
- CMU wall construction
- Paver patio construction
- Low voltage LED landscape lighting installation
- Grading and sod installation
- Drainage modifications
Glen Allen Paver Patio
Once the final plan was completed with modifications requested by the homeowner, a layout was presented that would serve as an outdoor living area that could be used as a place to serve multiple functions. Against the house under a cedar pergola is a perfect space for everyone to get out of the sun during the day and entertain in the evening. On the opposite side of the patio, a fire pit flanked by a seating wall and columns provided an area for family and guests to sit down and relax. Because this project was completed in a new development in the Richmond area there were limited trees and vegetation. Thus, it was very important to create a space that felt open but also had the feel of boundaries to mimic the feel of a closed room. To complete the “Room Feel” a short knee wall and columns were added opposite the fire pit area.

James River Outlook
Upon the site analysis, many features of the existing space were noted as to come up with the most thorough vision possible for the client. Capturing natural sunlight was imperative as the site is full of large deciduous trees throughout. The change in grade elevation also presented many challenges that we used to our advantage to create an ideal living space. Half of the new space was constructed into the existing hillside while the remaining area extended out and above the existing grades. This provides the homeowner with two different vantage points when they are enjoying the space. To access the space from their house we installed raised stepping stones that are illuminated at night with Low voltage LED lighting.
We hope that you enjoy the view!
